Student led conference 06/02/2010
MandarinThis is my last student led conferece in primary in hong kong academy.!!!!!!!!! For mandarin I chose all of my mandarin tests from this semester because in all of the tests I was the person that got the highest scores in all of them, And also because I tried really hard to get a good score and practiced a lot .My goal at the begging of the year was to get to the highest level of mandarin by the end of grade five, I think that I had achieved this goal that I made a year ago.My second goal was to turn in all of my homework for mandarin. In the begging of the year I didn't really organize my self with mandarin, but near to the end of the year I started doing mandarin homework,And then I actually started enjoying mandarin.        MathFor math this year i have improved a lot in my math skills because I used to not get what Andy,Sally or clem said in mathe class but now i understand pretty much all of the instructions. The piece that I chose for mathe is my math worksheet that I did in class a couple of days ago. I chose this piece because I did it really fast and also concentrated on it a lot when I was doing the math worksheet. There is a thing called mathletics.com and in mathletics you have differnt kinds of math games that help you with different kinds of topics that we are learning in class. This is just a tool to help you to practice what you don't know or what you still need help on.  UOIThe piece that I chose for unit of inquary is my radio show that I am doing with pheobe, The sript is what I am going to show you it is this.. Radio Show Script: Alien Attack Narrator: Now we are at the Harley Home Sophia: Wow. Look at that big flying thing. Josh: Yeah it is massive. I wonder what is inside it. Sophia: I bet you 10 bucks that if we can find out what that thing really is. Josh: Okay then you have yourself yet another bet. Narrator: 10 minutes later Sophia: should we be calling the Spaceoligists in their station Josh: I think we should go inside and tell Mom and Dad inside?! Mom&Dad: I really do not believe you and that alien space ship story. Josh: OK then if you want to be attacked by the aliens from Plubalapuback. Oh and by the way Plubalapuback is 1,000,000 milesaway from the sun! Sophia: Josh we need to get Mom and Dad in the storm shelter before the big flying thing lands on top of the neighbor hood park! Josh: I am on it now. Mom: I am so proud of you guys for telling us and getting us in the shelter before it was too late. Dad: Thank goodness that we have a weeks worth of meals in here. Other wise we would have to be going back and forth from the -house- Sophia: Daddy, I'm scared about the big flying thing coming and falling on the storm shelter's door. Mom: Well if that happens I bet Josh and Daddy will be able to brake the door with something out of the tool box. Josh: We actually have a tool box down here? Dad: This shelter is basically a substitute house for us. Sophia: So we do not have to keep going back and forth from the house then! YAY!! Narrator: And now we go back to the TV station. Reporter: That was the live voice recording of what happened in the Harley's home the day of this big event. Now we have Sophia aged 12 and her mother, and her brother Josh aged 14. Josh: Well first of all let me get something out: I was so scared that the flying thing was going to crash down right above our storm shelter's door and block us in. Luckily a phone was fitted in. After 15 minutes we received a phone call from someone 10 house from us saying: Sophia: She said: Help me oh please please help me get out of my storm shelter! I am begging you to let me and my 2 children come and stay with you in your shelter. We replied saying: What happened to your shelter? But yes of corse you can stay in our shelter. Mom: Then she came around bringing sleeping bags and a tiny bit of food which would of lasted 9 days. Reporter: Well I think the president has something to say. President: Congratulations for being the nicest family in California! We would like to give all of your family a medal for doing this good deed. Well done the Harley family! Now give a medal to your father kids! Mom, Sophia,& Josh: Thank you sooo much! Bake Sale StuffIn the bake sale we had a goal to raise at least raise $1,000 but we raised over $5,000 dollars.As in we I mean Emma Gigi and me.Savannah had not joined at the time LiteracyThe thing that I chose for Literacy is Comprehension. In my conprehension groups I always like to do my comprehension first because it is the thing that i find most fun and easy to do. In the begging of the year conprehension was one of the hardest things in grade five and the most boring to do becasue I didn't undersand any of it so i didn't like it   Mathsin Maths this year I think I have improved a lot because in the begging of the year I found math really hard and now I understand almost every thing that Andy said in class. The area that I think I have most improved on is on rounding up decimals and decimals unit. In the fraction unit I found it really hard to know how to My goals for this summer are to learn how to multiply decimals and fractions,And to not forget how to round decimals.and fractions and Add Comment Mandarin sentences 05/27/2010

In the exhibition so far I have found some good information and made it in my own words and I have also done some work of the presentation and how it it is going to look like and I made a wordle on the computer.The things that I still need to work on are we still have to get more information about the situation of a domestic helper in Hong Kong.The things that are concerning me is EVERYTHING!!. Exhibition reflection 05/10/2010
Today our group had a mentor meeting. In the mentor meeting we discussed about how far we are on our exhibition and we are planning to to a survey and go interview helpers in IFC and the alleys and ask them questions about how they are being treated.In our other mentor meetings we made a mind-map and then we put all of the problems into categories.Our homework was to take all of the three categories and put them into questions and some of the questions were:where do you go out when you have a day of? Do you ever have a day off? We have to be careful on what questions we ask because they may get abused or they don't get paid and that may make them a bit emotional.What we have been doing in The Exhibition is we have been making the wiki page that you can access it here.Savannah has been working on the wiki because the wiki is part of the Exhibition process.At the end of the school year we have this Exhibition that we show to the whole school about what we have done. WritingDuring the year I think I have improved my writing skills but I think I am still behind on my writing skills. This is one of my blog posts that I think I did really bad on because I didn't have enough detail and didn't really describe what I felt like in the exhibition. This is one of the reflections that I did fro the exhibitions and I think that blog post is one of my best ones because I had a lot of detail and it described what I felt like during that time. IntroductionThis is a blog post is about what my parents are going to see the progress I have made throughout the year and the things that I need to work on for next year. This blog post is also for reflecting on the things I have done in G5AB. I think I still have to improve in my writing skills and my mathematics skills, The things that I think I have done well through the year is that I have improved my reading skills and my Mandarin such as writing and reading and recognizing the characters. But my goal for next year is to move up to the highest class in Mandarin. GoalsMy goals for this year are.My short-term goal: My short term goal is to go to the highest class in Mandarin. And practice every day for 20 minutes.My long-term goal: My long-term goal is to be prepared to all of my classes and with the work done in Middle school. For my holiday I went to Langkawi, Malaysia.It took five hours to get there 4 hours in the plane to Kuala Lumpur and then an hour to get to Langkawi. when we got out of the airport we took a van to this little house and we waited for like 15 minutes then we took a jeti to another island and after that we took a gulf car to our villa.after we took a shower and cleaned ourselves up and had a quick nap we went to the pool. 3 profile stars that best describe me best 03/29/2010
This is a picture of me at the start of the school year.It was the first activity we ever did in grade . What we had to do was we had to choose 3 profile stars that best described you. The ones that I chose were communicator caring and Risk-taker. I think communicator describes me best because I like to talk with people and by communicating is the simplest thing that I can describe my feelings best with by talking. I chose Caring because all of my think that I am a very caring person and I also think that I am kind of caring because a I like to take care of people when they are hurt or are feeling sad. I chose Risk-Taker because I like to try different things. For example when we went to New Zealand There was a lot of seafood and there were a lot new fish that I didn't really like but I still tried it and it endded up being my favorite food. Today we had an hour and a half of exhibition time.In that time that we had I looked for more websites because most of the websites that I found were not that good and so we need more websites. What I think so far about the exhibition is that I am starting to feel a bit more connected with my topic. The reason why I am so connected with this topic is because I have researched and I found out that the helpers in Asia get treated very badly. With this happening I feel that we should all take action and help help the domestic helpers in Hong Kong. |
